Traditional Hot Water Heater Installation Near Me

  • Traditional, storage tank water heaters are still the go-to for large families using large quantities of hot water simultaneously, such as showering and washing laundry.
  • While not as energy efficient as tankless models, there are some traditional water heater models that can provide you higher levels of efficiency. A technician can walk you through a discussion of your options re
  • garding the right model and size that fit your family’s lifestyle and budget.

Tankless Hot Water Heater Installation

  • Tankless water heaters are becoming more and more popular due to their energy efficiency.
  • Because heating water accounts for a large percentage of your home’s energy budget, when it comes time to replace your water heater, consider asking your technician about tankless.
  • Tankless water heaters provide hot water only as needed, which is why they’re also referred to as “on-demand” water heaters.
  • When you turn on the hot water, cold water travels through a coil pipe into the unit where it is heated by either a gas burner or electric element.
  • Several sources say tankless water heaters are best when powered by natural gas.
  • Gas tankless water heaters tend to produce higher flow rates than electric tankless water heaters.
  • A technician can walk you through a discussion of how to connect the water heater to your existing power source, or how to install a new power source for the type of model you prefer.

Hot Water Heater Maintenance

plumber working on water heater

Proper maintenance helps your water heater to live a full life, and save you the expense of premature replacement. Certified Services offers preventive maintenance programs which include the following (and, more) services for your hot water heater.

Flushing the Hot Water Tank

Flushing the tank annually reduces sediment buildup that could diminish your water heater’s efficiency or clog connected water lines.

Replacing the Anode Rod Filter

Most tank water heaters include an anode rod to help prevent corrosion of the tank walls. Typically made of aluminum, magnesium or zinc, the anode rod is affixed to the top and suspended inside the hot water tank. Because the anode rod is made of metals more susceptible to corrosion than the steel tank walls, the corrosion process starts there. If not replaced, the rod could become completely corroded and then the process would move on to the steel tank walls.

Inspecting the Temperature & Pressure Valve

Gas and electric water heaters have a safety device called a temperature and pressure relief valve. If the hot water tank ever becomes over pressurized, the safety valve would open and release pressure. Part of our water heater maintenance, is to check that this valve is prepared for emergency situations.

FAQs: Water Heater Repair Services

The lifespan of your water heater will be determined by a number of factors including brand, maintenance, and more. Properly maintained water heaters can last between 8 and 10 years.

There are several signs suggesting you may need a new water heater. A few examples include water pooling around the water heater, no hot water coming out of your faucets, scalding hot water coming out of your shower and faucets, or abnormally high utility bills. Schedule an in-home inspection to determine if your existing water heater can be repaired, or if you should have a new one installed.

There are three main choices when purchasing a new water heater.

  1. Gas or electric?
  2. Tank or tankless?
  3. Small tank or large tank?

A certified technician can walk you through these choices and more.

The size of your homes hot water tank is largely dependent on the number of people that live there, how much water they use, and how much water is used at once. For example, if you have two kids and you’re doing laundry at the same time they’re showering, then you’ll need a larger hot water tank than a house with just two people. We typically recommend

  • a 40 gallon hot water tank for a home with 2 people,
  • a 50 gallon hot water tank for a home with 2 – 4 people, and
  • a tankless hot water heater for a home with 4 or more people.

Have a large family and need “endless” hot water? Then tankless might be for you. If several people in your home are taking back-to-back showers in the morning, all while you’re doing a load of laundry or running the dishwasher, you might consider talking to our plumbing technician about the benefits of a tankless water heater for your home. If you travel frequently, or split your time between multiple homes, you might also find tankless to be the best option. Think about it this way – you wouldn’t leave your car running in the driveway until you need it would you? So, why leave your hot water tank running while you’re away for months at a time?

The short answer is yes, but there are factors to take into account. Depending on where you live, most codes or ordinances allow homeowners (unlicensed individuals) to install their own water heater. However, this is rarely recommended for safety reasons. If you do decide to install your own hot water heater, be sure to receive a permit and have it inspected for safety by Certified Services before running.

Home improvement and home maintenance service sites will advise that the average cost of a hot water tank with an installation is around $850 for a 40 to 50 gallon traditional tank and around $3,000 for a tankless hot water heater.

But these average estimates depend on a number of factors, like your current setup, your home’s space, your family’s needs, etc. One call to us and we can quickly and accurately understand your needs and what option will best serve you and your budget.

Our certified technicians will inspect the existing equipment to determine the repairs needed to restore optimal performance. If the technician believes it is in your best interest to replace your water heater, he or she will walk you through a discussion of your options. Together, you’ll determine the best water heater for your home, your family and your budget.

A water heater expansion tank is a small chamber (typically having a two-
gallon capacity) that is mounted close to your current hot water heater and
connected to the water line.

It’s best to consult with a licensed plumbing technician to understand if you need an expansion tank. There are also indicators and signs that can help you decided if you need a water heater expansion tank, such as:

  1. Have a pressure regulating valve or a check valve.
  2. Have noticed fluctuating high and low water pressure.
  3. Have a closed system.
  4. Have local city codes that require you to have an expansion tank.
  5. Want your water heater to last as long as possible.

If you have questions or concerns about your water heater or need water heater repair services, we’re here to help you make the right choice and feel confident in the installation process.
